Day 11 - Kappl, Austria to Olching, Germany

Layed up short today after a long day yesterday, about 120 miles. Said a sad goodbye to Margaret this morning who plied us with coffee which Mark had guilt tripped her into.

Looking toward to visiting Dachau concentration camp but when the temp reached 36° we found a campsite close by Dachau and near a lake.
After a few games of connect 4, a few beers and some Schnitzel it was time for an early bed readily for Dachau and onwards to Ulm in the morning.

Day 14, Mazingabe to Hazebrouk 50 miles

Great start to the day with breakfast laid on by Annette. Consisting of jams, bread, croissant, cheese, ham, coffee and orange juice. Even the dog had some. We knew it may be a wet ride today so took our time, trying to dodge the drops by visiting a few Great War cemeteries and a museum. If you get the chance, visit the museum at Fromelles (Thorpe Wood) at 5 euros per adult it was very well worth it and underlines the futility of the sacrifice all those brave young men made. On leaving the museum, the rain started coming down so we took refuge in a McDonald's where we bumped into an odd Scottish biker spending a month in Europe, sleeping behind bus shelters. When the rain gave way it was off to Hazebrouck for a look around and a lunchtime beer at the Cafe de Paris. Day 2

Sad start to the day, 2 of our group headed for home 😔 300 miles of non motorway roads saw us ending up in Mulhouse, France on the border with Germany. On the way we bumped into Joan of Arcs birthplace, a jet taking off from a car park and rounded the day off with a nice meal in Mulhouse.  Getting back to the hotel, we had a beer with Jörg & Sybille, a married couple from Stuttgart riding Harleys on their touring holiday. Jörg gave us their phone number for if ever we were in their hometown. Unsure what tomorrow will bring or even which direction we're headed, possibly along the bottom of Germany toward Slovenia. UPDATE: I forgot to remove the disc lock from my front wheel and dropped the bike 😒🤣

Day 3 - Luneville to Dornstetten

189 miles today. After a bit of a scare with Marks bike looking like it may have had a leak from the rear drive. Thankfully we reckon it may have been something they sprayed on when changing tyres. So after a quick coffee in La Cervoise we were back on the road. My original plan for visiting Struthof now cancelled, it was off to Colmar for a look around the medieval city. A French town but very Germanic looking. A decision was made to target Hohencamping in Germany, a place I'd stayed at once before. By chance we happened to find a memorial at an old blockhouse of the Maginot Line. ...and after not excluding ferries from the satnav, got a free ferry across the mighty Rhine. Heading through the Schwarzwald, which is utterly beautiful. Finally set up for the night and enjoying a well earned beer and some currywurst. Blimey, 4 weiss beers later and we have a nose aro...
