Day 9, Bad Rodach to Pforzheim

Waking up to a beautiful morning in Bad Rodach, we knew we would have to be clever and lucky with the radar app to avoid a shower so decided to head South West.
Stopping at a Rewe for the, by now, obligatory coffee and pastry we covered approx 200 miles with no wet weather arriving in Pforzheim around 1530. 

We are staying here 2 nights to allow huge thunderstorms to pass through and looking out the window as I write it was a good decision.
After getting the bikes unloaded and parked up safely in the hotel garage, it was a quick shower and find out what the town was like. Sadly, as I'm sure with so many others in Germany, it was not at all quaint as the RAF had done some re-modelling in 1945 destroying 83% of the town.
We met some German fellas in a nearby bar and shared some laughs and schnapps in broken Germlish.
After some currywurst and a final beer, it was off to bed with the knowledge that tomorrow was a rest day.

Our route so far..... This morning was a fast exit because of impending rainstorms. We hightailed it to Stalag Luft III in Poland to visit the site of the RAF's and others mass escape from a German POW camp. Then into Zagen to pay our respects at the camp cemetery and memorial to the men who "were shot trying to esape" Our next target is Colditz so plan to find some accommodation not too far away. Ended up in an old (1732) inn at Burgstadt and after a pizza, a couple of beers and early night ready for Colditz in the morning.

Day 15, Hazebrouck to Home. 200 miles

Not much too say about the journey home, left in the rain and arrived home in the rain. A good breakfast from Thierry at L'Echappe this morning, perhaps a little too much coffee with all the rain I've seen today. Managed to stickerbomb the Eurotunnel bike park. Overall it's been another fantastic tour totalling around 3000 miles and 5 countries, 3 of them new to me. Poland, Czech Republic and the Netherlands. Day 14, Mazingabe to Hazebrouk 50 miles

Great start to the day with breakfast laid on by Annette. Consisting of jams, bread, croissant, cheese, ham, coffee and orange juice. Even the dog had some. We knew it may be a wet ride today so took our time, trying to dodge the drops by visiting a few Great War cemeteries and a museum. If you get the chance, visit the museum at Fromelles (Thorpe Wood) at 5 euros per adult it was very well worth it and underlines the futility of the sacrifice all those brave young men made. On leaving the museum, the rain started coming down so we took refuge in a McDonald's where we bumped into an odd Scottish biker spending a month in Europe, sleeping behind bus shelters. When the rain gave way it was off to Hazebrouck for a look around and a lunchtime beer at the Cafe de Paris. Some very strange folk frequenting that place, a strange woman singing away as if no-one else was there. After some food shopping we left for Thierrys place which we stayed at last year, once agai...
